Drupal Frustrations
November 28, 2009
I love Drupal. Up until the point when I’m banging my head against the computer desk, unable to find the tutorial I need to show me how to use something.
I’m at that point.
Blasted Views module. All I want is to create a view for the homepage of my Drupal site, so that I can display some news updates. That’s it. That’s all I really want. Why is that too much to ask for? The stupid thingĀ just refuses to cooperate with me.
This is the point where I feel like I’m just b.s.ing my way through this.
Alright. I’m off to go look for a tutorial that actually makes sense.

Hang in there =)
What problems are you having, exactly? If the internet is your extended brain you need to speak to it in a way that lets it help you.
Is the view for your front page supposed to become the whole front page (a page view with a path that is the same as from your site settings)?
Or are you trying to embellish your front page with a block, generated by a view, that has recent news items?
Either way it sounds like you’ll want a view that filters by node type = news, and sort it by created date descending.
Then you can make a block or a page view as needed.

Great post. I gained some very useful information from it. I’ve been trying out Joomla lately and am having a great time experimenting with it. Have you used Joomla? Any tips for me? Visit my blog if you’d like to read more. Thanks again for this blog – it is really well-done.
